Normally Open Contact
Normally open magnetic contacts.
Normally open contact. Relays and contactors have two types of contacts each suited for different applications. 2 off normally open and 2 on normally closed 1 off normally open or 1 on normally closed switching voltage. There is a common electrical connection between a contact of each pair that results in only three connection terminals. Normally open relays default in the open position meaning that when they re not in use there is no contact between the circuits.
Previous picture shows what this looks like in practice. Search within results. Form c contacts change over or transfer contacts are composed of a normally closed contact pair and a normally open contact pair that are operated by the same device. Normally closed nc contacts allow current through when the relay or contactor is not energized.
Magnetic contacts are low current devices that send a signal to an alarm or a supervised monitoring system when an armed door is opened. Energizing it and switching it on will close the contact causing it to allow current flow. Unlike open contacts with normally closed contacts signal will interrupt a contact or turn a relay off. Normally open contacts would represent relay contacts that would perform a connection upon receipt of a signal.
The resistor orientation series or parallel depended on whether the contact s on the circuit were normally open or normally closed. So in order to wire the zone correctly you had to know the contact s normal state. These terminals are usually labelled as normally open common and normally closed no c nc. Energizing it and switching it on will open the contact causing it to not allow current flow.
Normally open no contacts allow current when the relay or contactor is energized. Normally open switch contacts are sometimes referred to in the electrical industry as form a contacts. They help keep buildings and controlled access areas secure. If we had used a normally closed pushbutton switch instead the behavior would be exactly opposite.
Normally closed is a contact that flows current in its normal state. When power is introduced an electromagnet pulls the first circuit into contact with the second thereby closing the circuit and allowing power to flow through. In other words when voltage is applied to the relay contactor terminals this contact closes. View more view all sort filter.
The built in contact block in these switches extends behind the panel half the depth of most other 22 mm switches saving valuable space. The lamp would energize if the switch was left alone but it would turn off if anyone pressed the switch.
